The Autumnal Equinox falls on September 23 this year, when China will celebrate its first Chinese Farmers’ Harvest festival. On behalf of the CPC Central Committee, I extend my greetings and best wishes to all the hundreds of millions of farmers across the country.
Creating the Chinese Farmers’ Harvest festival is a considered decision by the CPC Central Committee. It further demonstrates the fundamental and essential role of work related to agriculture, rural areas and farmers, and will have far-reaching significance. During the Autumnal Equinox, the whole country enjoys bumper harvests and mellow fruitfulness. Farmers celebrate their harvests with great joy. There is no better time to have the Chinese Farmers’ Harvest festival.
China is a big agricultural country. Attaching great importance to agriculture forms the foundation for social stability and plays a key role in governance. The Chinese farmers have made great contribution to the revolution, construction and reform in different periods of Chinese history. This year marks the 40th anniversary of reform in the countryside. China’s rural reform and development has made historic achievements since then. I hope that all farmers and other walks of life can actively participate in the festival to create an atmosphere of the whole society paying attention to agriculture and rural areas and caring for the welfare of farmers, to motivate the initiative and creativity of farmers to achieve rural revitalization, poverty alleviation, as well as modernization of agriculture and rural areas, to open a new chapter for the reform and development of agriculture and rural areas in our efforts to achieve overall rural revitalization and the “Two Centenary Goals.”
