Respect for Ethnic Minority Customs and Traditions
Respect for ethnic minority customs and traditions has always been a policy focus of the CPC and the Chinese government, a reflection of the principle of ethnic equality. This includes respect for traditional festivals of minority ethnic groups, their dietary cultures and their funeral and burial rites, and protection for their freedom of religion or belief.
As ethnic customs are dynamic under the influence of social, economic and scientific progress, the freedom to reform customary practices is also respected.
But such reforms should always be initiated, decided upon and executed by minorities themselves, rather than mandated or imposed from without.
